If you’ve followed me for any length of time, you know that I use a Vitamix blender to make all of the delicious green smoothie recipes on my website.
But I also understand that not everybody has a budget for a Vitamix. There are quite a few blenders out there that cost half the price. I recently got the chance to use one of these blenders.
I recently received a BlendWorks Pro-Series blender for review, and I thought I’d share my thoughts about this recent entry into the mid-upper level blender market.
Motor: The BlendWorks Pro-Series blender features a 1500-watt, peak 2 horsepower motor, which is enough to liquefy tough ingredients like kale and frozen strawberries. No more “sip and chew”.
Pitcher: A 70-ounce, BPA-free pitcher includes both English and metric measurements for easy filling.
The BlendWorks Pro-Series blender pitcher follows a more classic (tall and narrow) design, which is often better for liquefying frozen ingredients.
Also included is a 20-ounce capacity travel cup!
Blades: A six-blade, stainless steel blade assembly is fused to the pitcher as is the case with most high-end blenders. Note, there are two downward-facing blades beneath the cross blades pictured.
Dimensions: The counter top footprint of this blender is 9 inches by 8.5 inches. With the pitcher attached, the blender stands about 19.5 inches tall. There is just over 4 feet of cord, which easily stores beneath the blender. The blender weighs about 10 pounds.
Interface: There are two switches and one dial on the front of the blender. From right-to-left, there is an on/off switch, a speed dial that enables you to fine-tune your blending speed, and a “liquefy/pulse” switch.
There are no program cycles on this blender. I don’t use program cycles on any of my blenders because I feel like they over-blend my smoothies.
Accessories: The BlendWorks Pro-Series blender comes with a tamper, 20-ounce travel cup, 70-ounce pitcher, and a silicon spatula that comes in handy when making nut butters.
Warranty: The BlendWorks Pro-Series comes with a three-year warranty.
Price: The BlendWorks Pro-Series blender has an MRSP of $499, but typically sells for $259 on Amazon. You can also use this special coupon code BWSR1010 to save 10% if you order it from Amazon.com, which knocks the price down to below $235!
This blender is $200 less expensive than the least expensive Vitamix or Blendtec models.
I never know what to expect when it comes to blenders that try to meet Vitamix quality at half the price. But I was blown away with how the BlendWorks Pro-Series blender performed.
It is one of my favorites in the sub-$260 price point due to both smoothie quality, and overall look and feel of the blender. And it has a nice, intuitive user experience.
I made a green smoothie using almond milk, banana, orange, protein powder, spinach, and frozen strawberries. I blended it on high for about 30(ish) seconds and the result was an absolutely smooth green smoothie that was every bit as creamy as anything I make using my $700+ Vitamix.
The tall pitcher was actually better at liquefying whole, frozen strawberries than my Vitamix. I tested it out by making another green smoothie that included kale and a 3-inch piece of raw carrot (1-inch diameter) and there were no discernible bits of carrot (or kale) floating around in my smoothie!
The BlendWorks blender did not vibrate excessively, or move around the counter like I have heard that some other blenders in the same price range do. I was comfortable with taking my hands off the blender and letting it do its thing.
The blender comes with a tamper tool so that you can push ingredients into the blades for faster blending, I haven’t needed to use it.
I layer the ingredients this way: liquid, soft fruit, harder fruit, protein powder (and other smoothie boosters), leafy greens, and frozen fruit last. Start the speed dial on slow for a few seconds. Then turn to medium, then high.
As for sound, it wasn’t overly loud. In fact, I would say it is quieter than average. I don’t feel that his blender is too loud at all. Any quieter and you’re upping the price considerably.
The blender was easy to clean – just rinse with hot, soapy water and you’re done. You can also blend hot water with a drop or two of dish liquid and blend for 20 seconds.
The lid grips the top of the blender very securely. This is great because it means that it won’t fly off and slime your entire kitchen with green smoothie. With some blender lids, I feel like I need to keep my hand on it while it blends. Not this one!
It’s somewhat tricky to remove the first time you take it off, but it’s easier to remove once you get the feel for it. And I’m glad that this thing will never fail on me while blending!

BlendWorks vs. Vitamix vs. Blendtec
Of course, the big question I get is about how less expensive blenders compare with industry leaders like Vitamix and Blendtec.
As far as the quality of a green smoothie made in this blender, I see no difference between smoothies made in this blender vs. my $500+ Blendtec, and $700+ Vitamix. You will be very happy with how your green smoothies come out.
The BlendWorks Pro feels like a quality blender. I don’t feel like I’m sacrificing features or quality (both blender and smoothie) at this price point.
Vitamix blenders come with a 7-year warranty, while Blendtec blenders come with an 8-year warranty. The Blendworks comes with a 3-year warranty, which is in the average range for blenders at this price point.
Where To Get The BlendWorks Pro-Series Blender
Right now, you can get the BlendWorks Pro-Series blender through Amazon.com. With 48 reviews (as of 5/31/2017), 94% of those reviews give it a 5-star rating.
You can use coupon code BWSR1010 to save 10% off at checkout on Amazon.
At the current $259 price point, that knocks the price down to $234!
The BlendWorks Pro-Series blender delivers the quality of a much, much more expensive blender in a more affordable package!
