Do you love key lime pie as much as I do? How about a vegan smoothie alternative that tastes just like the real thing, but is also made with healthy ingredients?
This recipe whips up a delicious dessert smoothie that uses nothing but fresh, whole fruits and almond milk! It’s simple to make and will surely become a favorite.
I think the avocado and almond milk help give it the “pie crust” taste, while the limes and banana add the key lime flavor.
This smoothie is not nutritionally dense like the green smoothie recipes I share, but it’s VERY tasty and well worth giving it a try. Hey, it’s a fun smoothie so enjoy it as a treat.
Key Lime Pie Smoothie Recipe
- 1 small half-frozen banana, peeled
- 1/4 avocado, peeled and pitted
- 1 key lime or 1/2 regular lime, peeled and deseeded
- 4 ounces of fresh almond milk
- Vanilla from 1 vanilla bean (How to use vanilla bean), or use 1/4 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoons maple syrup or 1 medjool date, pitted and soaked for 20 minutes
I use “half-frozen” bananas, meaning frozen bananas that have had time to thaw a bit (but not all the way) before you blend them. This improves the key lime pie texture of the smoothie.
Start by adding the liquid to your blender (see my blender recommendations), followed by the soft fruit. Blend on high for 30 seconds or until the smoothie is creamy.
(NOTE: Nutritional information is going to vary based on the almond milk you use and is not included in the information below.)
