New Moon In Aries

New Moon in Aries

Date: March 21 & April 20, 2023

The New Moon in Aries is a time to take initiative, start something new, and put yourself out there.

Sure, you may feel the discomfort of uncertainty.

Yes, change feels chaotic and leaves you feeling less in control.

However, the New Moon in Aries calls us to make a pivot in our lives.

Aries is a fire sign, so it brings the energy of fire into your life – with the power to destroy, but also to blaze a path for new growth and fresh beginnings.

There’s a simple two step process for embracing the energy of the Dark Aries Moon.

Step 1:  Self-Care and Rejuvenate

When your life is upended, the best course of action is not resistance.

In my article on 5 life lessons I learned from going through dark times, I wrote that resistance to your circumstances causes misery more than the circumstances themselves.

In the same way that the misery of a cold or flu is caused by our body’s immune response to the pathogen, so too is our mental/emotional/spiritual misery caused by how we respond to our life circumstances.

Now is not the time to give in to fear, hopelessness, panic, or any other negative emotion.

You don’t have to block these emotions – but practice mindfully experiencing these emotions instead.

Practice mindful fear – mindful sorrow – mindful anxiety.

I like to journal and ask myself questions like:

  • What lesson is in this experience right now?
  • What meaning do I attach to this experience/circumstance in my life?
  • What is the narrative I’ve created around this situation?  Is it true or fiction?

Don’t be afraid to feel the fear, anxiety, depression – but don’t give into it.

It’s hard, I know, because I go through it myself, but your best path out of it is to practice mindfulness through it.

Need some help with mindful practice?  Try these 25 self-care rituals that take less than 10 minutes each.

Step 2:  Lean Into Action

After you regroup and practice mindfulness, now you can take intelligent action toward change.

But don’t overwhelm yourself by taking on too much.

Make tiny changes over time.  Even 1% improvements compound over time into massive change and transformation.

Don’t force action.  Lean into action.

If you’re quarantined at home, take this opportunity to pursue an interest that you’ve neglected.

Instead of binge-watching Netflix, direct one hour each day from TV toward gardening, or your spiritual practice, or creating art.  Learn something new.  Take a Udemy class (Tracy LOVES learning new things through online classes!)

NOW is a perfect opportunity to release things that no longer serve you.

I’ve written before about how Tracy and I have gone through significant loss.  The recession of 2008 left us unemployed, out of business, and bankrupt – literally.

We lost what we fought so hard to hold onto, until it was taken away from us.

But through that, we created our green smoothie website that helped hundreds of thousands of people transform their health while completely transforming our lives.

We would not have done that if our lives weren’t upended by circumstances beyond our control.

Sometimes, the Universe delivers a swift kick to the pants to jolt you out of your comfort zone and into your destiny.

NOW is a perfect time to take bold action outside of your comfort zone.

Instead of getting caught up in overwhelmingly negative and depressing news headlines that you can’t really do anything about, lean into actions that support your mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual health.

What will YOU 2.0 (or 3.0, etc…) look like post corona-pocalypse?

What tiny change will you make to your life starting today?

New Moon In Aries Rituals

Here are some suggested rituals to perform under the Aries New Moon:

1) Aries New Moon Tarot

The Emperor card is associated with Aries, embodying power, authority, reason, and leadership.

The suit of wands is also associated with the element of fire, with each card depicting a progression through a journey.

Here is a simple Intention/Action tarot spread to try during an Aries New Moon:

2) Fire Rituals

New Moons are a time to set intentions. Write your intentions on pieces of paper (or bay leaves) and burn them. Allow the smoke to carry your intent into the Universe.

My Garden At The New Moon In Aries

By the Aries New Moon, my garden is just starting to wake up. Most perennials are showing signs of emerging from the once frozen ground, though others (like my milkweed) will wait until we’re past the Taurus New Moon.

Coltsfoot is blooming along the edges of my property, and violets begin to show, as well as bloodroot and dandelion.

The Aries Full Moon occurs in the fall, at the time when pumpkins and squash are ready to harvest. During the Aries New Moon, I’ll start pumpkin and squash seeds from last year’s harvest, and set intentions as I plant them.

This bit of “pumpkin magick” can help you nurture goals and dreams over the growing season so they are ready to harvest by the Aries Full Moon.
